...we took the audio tour of Alcatraz today, and what struck me the most was how much like a real prison it was. I know, stupid of me to be surprised by that, but I think we've changed so much over the past thirty or fourty years since it closed that we've forgotten what "tough love" is all about-if you screw up in life, God is gracious, but society usually wasn't until more recently. Sometimes I think we need a little more justice, punishment, and reality than we're getting these days....not that I'd want to serve any time at Alcatraz.

wow. brutal. i agree with you wholeheartedly. i think we treat criminals better than we do some very hard working, law abiding citizens. this should not be.
sidenote- glad you finally posted again.
I've done that tour twice and it's really impressive. Makes one think!
I remembered all the gangster movies I had seen as a kid and the names they mentioned on the audio tour of people who were at Alcatraz.
i liked that tour as well. it's pretty interesting to walk that place. even though nobody "lives" there anymore i dont think i would want to stay the night...it's sorta creepy in the daytime even...
Everything about that tour scares me . . . or I think it would, anyway. I'm not going to find out the hard way.
I am always scared of running into "Vickie"
I'm glad this was a picture of Alcatraz and not the remodeling going on at your house.
two things: i've been to alcatraz, i skated there on tony hawk ps2. as far as punishment goes, here's my thought. small rooms, no resources, no human contact. no convict would refer to that as "three hots and a cot", and there wouldn't be as many going back.
you guys are the coolest frickin' people I have ever met.....at least outside of prison :)
