Well, I see that Dylan is comin' back to Reno on April 1st. I remember seeing his show last year at the recommendation of Dennis Clifton, and was amazed at the ability that Dylan had to be "in the moment"-he was so in the zone that he only said two words to the audience the entire night, but put on a hell of a show with his band. All he said was "thank you, friends." Reading his autobiography is like riding along with someone as they go "stream of consciousness" on you, giving you random, disjointed tidbits of information that sometimes confuse, sometimes entertain, but always seem to inspire. He's quite a character, and doesn't seem to have lost any of his Devil-may-care attitude over the years, like many from his generation. Yet one of their own says he thinks they've lost what made them so special. Being anti-establishment simply means that you smell bad and are not gainfully employed. Hippies suck. Many 60-year-olds are aware of this fact.

The baby boomers/hippies did have this going for them: idealism and a willingness to question traditional ways of doing things. But their other issues such as immorality, rebellion, naivety, self-centeredness, and spiritual blindness are still bearing fruit today in our culture and in the lives of their children and grandchildren. If they've lost some of this, then I say good riddance.
