How much does experience really matter?

According to Mr. Judy & myself, experience matters a lot, at least in the teaching arena. One of our pet peeves are college education professors who have never left academia and never been in the arena of real-life high school education. How well do those educational theories work in the real world?

Like most with a college degree(s), I've come to realize that college is mostly about learning the rules, jumping through hoops, & receiving a piece of paper to prove it. All it means is that you're ready to start getting your hands dirty & hopefully you won't screw it up royally. Any decent interview committee would hire an experienced teacher with a good reputation over a fresh-full-of-theory-newbie.

Now to politics: McCain's new negative ad that reminds us all about what he's got over Obama. If truth is truth regardless, then the axiom that experience matters probably applies to the presidency as well. I suppose the debate is what type of experience prepares one for the Presidency. I would argue any/all real-world experience trumps all theory.

Note: Obama's silly grin picture at the end :)

Interesting that the teaching world has its own version of politics, & that hiring committees are often places where those politics are played. And good teachers are 'overlooked' (blackballed?) while newbies with friends on the hiring committee are brought into the club. Errr. Teachers union. :)

And the McCain ad reminds me that we only have 3 more months of hellish campaign commercials. I'm happy for TiVO :)

as much as i dislike obama and everything that he stands for (that's right, apparently i am against "change" as defined by idiots), i think mccain is huge tool for complaining that obama is playing the race card. if i was mccain, i would be thrilled that it's already sinking in that the only real "change" obama can offer is a change in skin pigment. reason #24 i won't be voting for President in November.

politics in education, go figure. i would venture to say that there are politics behind the scenes no matter where you go. as far as having experience or not i am with you that too much is not enough. the more the better especially when dealing with our kids.
and one final note-
obama will be president and you all will have to repent for your foolishness when he is. :) hee hee hee.

i won't have any foolishness to repent for because i won't have voted for him.

how is it that the democrats keep coming up with candidates so shitty the best reason to vote for a republican is to not vote for . . . kennedy (bitch all you want about iraq, thanks for starting vietnam jackass), lydnon johnson, hubert humphrey, jimmy carter, walter mondale, michael dukakis, bill clinton, al gore, and john kerry. with obama that - ladies and gentlemen - is 44 years of complete disaster. if not for extenuating circumstances (lyndon johnson not yet revealed for the criminal he was, nixon's bizarre loyalty to his corrupt friends, and ross perot's personal vendetta against h.w. bush) only 2 democrats in the last 52 years could claim to be remotely electable.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much.... I couldn't figure out what side you all were on. I feel a little better now.

Once you work for any govmt anything, you get a strong feel that we need less of all of that shenanigans.
